David asks…

which is best audio video home theater or home cinema receiver?

i'm interested to build up blu-ray home cinema, should i buy blu-ray home theater or blu-ray player+receiver+speakers, how much the difference between audio video quality? plz suggest me the name of the model of lu-ray player ,receiver or home theatrer which is good.

dknol answers:

The answer to your first question, buy your equipment as separates (blu-ray player, receiver, speakers), you will end up with better sound for sure and a better blu-ray player. The added benefit to this is you won't trapped yourself and have to purchase an entirely new system, because of technology advances in one area (blu-ray, receiver, or speakers) that you want to take advantage of. Currently most blu-ray player are 12-bit players that push out up to 60 frames per second; that bit rate is sure to increase going forward, to 16, 24 or even 32 bits, which will provide far richer and more accurate color. The frame rate is also likely more to 120 or faster at some point. So having the flexibility to change the player only is beneficial.

The Playstation3 is still probably the most versatile player on the market, it's only weakness is that Sony decided to make the remote bluetooth and optional. Another good player is the Samsung BD-P3600. If you have a large collection of DVD, and you want to see them as good as possible, have a look at the Denon line of blu-ray players http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/High-Definition-Video-Components.asp . Most of their blu-ray players use the HQV chip-set to do the video up-conversion, and it is the be up-conversion chip-set on the market. Be warned the price of these players are steep.

With regard to receivers its a long list, and it really depends on how good you want your sound to be, brand preferences, room size and ultimately your budget. Brands to look at are Onkyo (my preference and budget), the better Pioneers, Denon, Harmon-Kardon, Yamaha, Outlaw, NAD, Marantz; I probably missed a few.

If you are looking for better quality products look at THX certified products, just visit http://www.thx.com/products/home/avreceivers.html . But all manufacturers don't participate in the THX program, so some capable receiver will not be listed. Two other references you can use are http://www.hometheatermag.com/ and http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/ .

Have fun
