How did you beat your World of Warcraft addiction?
I was pretty much addicted to World of Warcraft for a solid year before I had to give my account away to my guild leader in order to break the addiction.
It’s been more than 3 months now without Warcraft… I know if I still had my account I’d be addicted right now… Does anyone else feel this drawn to the game?
Is this truely a sign of an addiction?
Am I screwed?

Addiction:
The condition of being habitually or compulsively occupied with or or involved in something.
So, you could of considered yourself an addict. heavily addicted (I had just dumped my girlfriend, was failing Algebra 1, so I took it all out, on that game.
I never played WoW, but I didn play RuneScape (for like four years)
When I first started playing, I
I soon realized though, that it was ruling ym life… so I went cold turkey, for like… 3-4 months, when I came back, I limited myself to an hour a day, 3 times a week.
no and good for you for quittingit costs money and it kind of feels wierd but it is a slight sign ov it but try and get a different hobby like get steam and try team fortress 2 or counter strike or gametap and get games
when i was younger i was sort of a geek(no offense) and i played runescape and wow and hell even yugioh and eventually, i figured out i had to quit. i sold all my yugioh cards and then just ignored it, it took a couple of weeks but i was fine. then wow and runescape i quit my subscription and tried my freakin best not to play. i uninstalled the game and i replaced the time i spent on wow. i hung out with my friends more and i started working out and now i feel great. i got a ps3 and i love to play it and im getting a wii.
I found that that during school it didnt matter if a project was due you would still play wow. When i got my first job my addiction and play time went down dramatically.
I don’t know how hard core of a player you were, but I do know from personal experience that the game becomes more than just a game. It becomes a career and a feeling of responsibility to others. Especially to a group of friends or a guild, but I’m sure that if you cancelled and deleted your account/ character after a year or so it will just become a memory and you’ll have found something else. Hopefully something healthier to do.
ha nice, i played for 6 months and got to level 40….. i hated that games so much, it was really boring and went pretty slow. and at a high level there is no more point in playing. but if you really yearn for some good old warcraft plays some warcraft 3, its kind of safe from addiction etc.
The good news is that you aren’t screwed, but the bad news is that you have to limit you’re playing. Instead of playing at a rate that’s rather unhealthy (no offense), try playing for only an hour or two a day. There is another way to get yourself to not become addicted, but it’s somewhat unorthodox…if you visit someone a lot, then you could (although this is kinda complicated) install it at their house and play for a little bit when you visit. I’m nuts about WoW, but because of just about everyone else in my family loving it as much as I do (uncle, cousins, aunt), I only get a couple of hours on (since I get kicked off every other second), but I’ve never been to the point of addiction.
oh, WoW, what a game lol. First off, you’re not screwed. I used to be addicted. I have 3 70′s that proves it lol. I quit because college was starting soon but I started playing again. I only play when my guild does raids which is 3 times a week. So it’s not too bad compared to everyday for almost 7 hours. Honestly, I think 80-95% of the people that play get addicted, my boyfriend wont get off O_o
ok short answer….wow is an addictive game…..anyone who wants to start it…well good luck cause it is perhaps the MOST addictive game ever made. It never ends and thats what keeps players playing. after a while of not playing you’ll get over it. some tips to help u stay away:
1. Throw away the box or keep it out of view—seeing boxes or manuels can really get the addiction flowing again
2. Get another game—If u still like gaming…get some game that is a. not online multiplayer and b. has an end (aka campagin and crap)
3. uninstall it—these things may seem like they can barely help but trust me….removing any and all remnants or traces of past play can really get u to stay un-addicted
REMEBER— the game was meant to be VERY addictive and thats what it is….you just have to remeber to get on with life. but thers nothing wrong with wanting to play the game….its when we give up new jobs because our work schedual interferes with our raid schedual
It’s been over a year for me and I know if I reopened my account I’d be right back at the grind. I enjoy the occassional conversation with my work mates about WoW and what they’re raiding but it’s just for the fun of it.
The medical field has debated if video games are an addiction but unfortunately the verdict is still pending. Here’s an article that I found on a simple search (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/07/03/health/webmd/main1773956.shtml). People who say it isn’t real obviously aren’t addicts.
You’ve taken the first step. By asking if you’re an addict, you’ve realized you’re playing too much and that you probably are an addict. Just stay away from Warcraft and you’ll be fine. You’ll always want to play, I still do. But there are bigger and better things out there for both of us.
Stay Strong.
