This mp3 player is to be a Christmas gift, so I have not used it. What I can say is that it arrived in packaging that was torn and crumpled. This is supposed to be a new product but looks used because of the packaging.

I have had difficulty figuring out how to use this product. The information included with it is very sparse, and seems to assume that the consumer is already familiar with using an MP3 player. Unfortunately, some of us are first timers.

The directions say nothing about how to play Audible downloads. It appears to work fine for playing music but it clearly was not designed for listening to books. There are about 50 words in the entire instruction manual, and none of them explain how to play books. The controls are sensitive but again, if you just want to start and stop playback of a book, they are overly sensitive, complicated, and ill-suited for use while moving about. It comes with songs pre-loaded but they must have been recorded in some of the worst nightclubs by the worst singers in the world – delete them all upon purchase to free up a little more memory. I’m glad it didn’t cost much because I didn’t feel bad trashing it and replacing it with a Sony Walkman. PS – If you’re new to Audible AND have a new Sansa Fuze – Good Luck, and hope you have lots of spare time and patience.

After scrounging around various review sites ([...]), it seems that the Fuze was going to be a nice, expandable replacement for my 1st gen iPod Nano.
when received, the interface was nice, but the promised Linux (Ubuntu) integration did not work, even after a firmware upgrade. I then update my OS to the latest Ubuntu, and many OTHER problems later, the Fuze finally syncs. However, after only a few days of limited use, the battery seemed to fail to charge, and I returned the device.
Pros: seemless microSD support
some element of Ubuntu/Linux support
Excellent interface and form
Radio / recorder features
Cons: Proprietary dock / cable connector
only some Linux support
? Quality control, with dead battery so early on.
I am ambivalent about this device, and sad to have to say that I returned it and bought an iPod touch to allow car integration (another long story :-)
If you are looking for a similarly sized device with similarly broad features, and no proprietary silliness, look to the Cowon devices.
