Is There Are Device Available Which Can Recharge Mp3 Player Or Batteries While Hiking?
I’m planning to take a week long hike over the PA appalachian trail and would like to bring an mp3 player with me but I would prefer not to lug along batteries. Is there any consumer level device which can turn my walking motion into a power source? I’ve seen a few gadgets on the drawing board on the internet but I don’t know of anything for sale on the consumer level.
Thanks!

There are only two “real” choices available to the consumer – solar and windup based on your description of your hike. Unfortunately, both are going to add considerable weight to your pack. You’re not alone in wanting to turn the repetitive motion of walking into a power source.
The most efficient method is to buy a AA to Ipod (or USB) recharger, take along some batteries and buy some on the road if you need more.
It really depends on what type of MP3 player you have. The ‘big’ ones like iPod and a couple of Sony ones have them, check the Apple Store or a Best Buy for those. If you have a less well known/popular one, you’re really just going to have to look around. Try bring your player into the store with you and asking a salesperson
