Is it legal to use an Ipod to record a conversation between the Ipod owner?
Ipod owner is using device as a tape recorder to record conversations between the Ipod owner, our son, and his mother. The Ipod owner is also using it to record conversations between other people in the household. He is now threatening to use the recording to cause legal actions against his parents. We were not told of his recording conversations. Residency is in Missouri.

It probably was legal to make the recording, because it was a recording of an “in person” conversation, and the recording was made by one of the people in the conversation.
(If the recording were made by someone who wasn’t in the conversation, and/or it was a recording of a phone conversation, that would be different – likely illegal).
However, even if the recording was made legally, disclosing the recording to others (or using it to blackmail you) may not be legal and/or could be the basis for a lawsuit.
P.S. If you have been involved in illegal activities, talk to a lawyer ASAP – you could get in trouble for those activities whether or not his recording was legal.
P.P.S. The type of equipment he used to make the recording doesn’t make any difference.
