Can Charging Your Mp3 Player On Your Computer Hurt Either One?
I heard from two people (though I wasn’t completely paying attention) that I should buy a wall adapter because charging my mp3 player through my computer can eventually screw up my mp3. Is this true?

i have been charging mine that way for over a year adn no problems yet
But it depends on how much current your device draws during charging. According to the USB spec, each hub powered device can draw a max of 500 mA. If you charger is rated for at least 500 mA at 5V then you should be OK. If your mp3 device draws more current than your charger can provide It may overheat, which could be dangerous.
In other words, no, charging your mp3 on your computer is fine.
No.
Computers today have mechanisms in them to charge over USB and the MP3 player itself is made to charge off MP3. Ultimately it boils down to it’s a 5volt power source…that’s all your mp3 player cares about.
It will not damage the computer or the player. These people likely experienced a natural problem of the batteries in mp3 players will eventually wear out after so many charges and not hold as much power. They will do it regardless of what charging method you use.
If it’s designed that way, you’re good to go! Wall adapters are sold for convenience.
Make sure you always connect everything properly, so as not to confuse the device or computer.
I would also advise ejecting the device, instead of just unplugging it. :)
I have a Memorex 1GB mp3. So far charging it with the laptop doesn’t screw up anything. You can also charge it into a Xbox 360 or Wii or anything with a USB 2.0 slot
they will both explode, sending shrapnel flying, possibly seriously injuring anyone in the room.
I wouldn’t think it would hurt it, after all it was made to be charged by the computer. That’s how I charge mine.
They’re made to charge on your computer.
No.
