Your Questions About World Of Warcraft Addons

Nancy asks…
World of warcraft addons unable to be deleted?
I’ve owned WoW for 3 years now, and I have never had this happen. After the most recent patch, yesterday, it’s like blizzard moved my WoW folder. Anything I do to the addon folder in my programs folder doesn’t mimic on the game. I cleared my addons and wtf folders, but those addons still appear in game. Anyone know what happened?
I have tried searching my computer for the addons and other world of warcraft folders with no luck.
dknol answers:
What addons are you running? What are you seeing in-game?
As far as I know, unless you have an addon specifically labeled for Wrath, Beta, or 3.0 compatibility, your addons will be broken.
When I logged in, none of my addons appeared.
If I were you, and wanted to clear my interface, I would not clear my wtf folder, but delete it altogether. A new wtf folder will be populated the next time you log in. Your interface will be completely reset– hotkeys will need to be rebound, video and UI setting will all be reset to default.
You should also make sure that you have no addons selected when you are at your Character Selection Screen, using the addons button in the lower-left corner of your screen.
3.0 majorly overhauled the default UI, and you may be seeing some of those changes and thinking it’s your addons messing up. Check to make sure you are running vanilla, and then go to curse, wowace, or your favorite addon site to get compatible and up-to-date addons.

William asks…
Who knows how to get new World of Warcraft addons to load?
I deleted all of my old addons since the patch and loaded a few new ones, but in my ingame add on menu only the ones I have deleted show up.
dknol answers:
Check where you have the game installed. With the new patch, the default installation of the game changed destinations.
What I mean is, you probably have the game installed in:
C:/Program Files/World of Warcraft
But the patch, for some people, reinstalled the game to:
C:/Users/Public/Games/World of Warcraft
Essentially creating two WoW games on your hardrive. You probably added your new addons to the first orginal Addon folder, but the game is running from the second destination.
Try checking to see if this is the case and see if the game is now installed in the second location. If it is, put the addons into the new Addon folder in the Users/Public/Games/World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons folder.
I hope this answer helps. Let us know!

Lisa asks…
What world of warcraft addons do you recommend (for a mage)?
Im getting Xperl. How about addons for maps, and i want something that will let me how much much im healed for and when people buff me, damage from dots and what kind of buffs. And is omen threat meter good? Also im playing a mage, so any good addons for sheep timer, decursing etc?
dknol answers:
I use Recount, it’s a all in one damage meter. It tells you how much damage you’ve done/recieved and I think it includes heals.
You can use OmmniCC for countdowns, it display’s numbers on your hotkey icons showing how much time the ability has left.

David asks…
Hey guys what are some world of warcraft addons that you think are very useful?
I am a rogue so they can be for any class or a rogue. The answer with the most addons that I do not already have and enjoy (or if it has one i REALLY LIKE and I dont have) gets the best answer. Even just one addon could help me so please answer. Well thanks guys! (I’m only lvl 42 if that helps?)
dknol answers:
Alright, you should FOR SURE get Quest Helper. It will show you the location of all your quests, where to go, how to do them, etc. It makes it quite easy for leveling.
Atlas Loot will come in handy as you go, since it will let you check what gear drops from what boss in what instance (makes it good for setting up what gear you want to get at level 80).
Auctioneer is a very handy addon. It is a program that scans the auctionhall (when you initiate the scan) and will compile data on all the items in it. This makes it simple to buy low, sell high, and to easily determine how much you should post items for.
Sell All is a really helpful addon. What it does is it adds an extra tab to the merchants window that will automatically (when clicked) sell all the grey items in your bag.
Postal is a pretty handy addon. It is a mail addon that makes your mail system much more efficient. What it does is allow you to (1) open and windraw all the items from your mailbox at once (2) keep a ‘phone book’ for your mail, so you can just open it and click the name of the person you want to send the mail to.
TomTom is a coordinates addon. It will tell you your x and y location. This comes in handy for when people tell you where to go via coordinates.
There is also Atlas, which gives you detailed instance maps.
There is also Recount (previously known as DamageMeter). What this does is every time your in a group it records the data on damage, dps, healing done, etc and will show you. This is useful to see how well you are doing damage wise.
Thats it for the addons that I run/ran, not including the mage-specific ones and the raid addons.
