Donna asks…

Does the mp3 player affect sound quality?

i mean like does the players itself affect sound quality of my music…because i always thought wat affects the sound is the headphones, bitrate, and the music file

ive been lookin for a mp3 player…reviews all say the quality of sound differs from player to player

dknol answers:

Certainly! While I suspect the resolution is similar from device to device, the components that make up the audio circuitry like the amplifier and volume control will effect the sound. Some devices such as IPOD have user selectable digital EQ’s while others may have preset EQ curves to compensate for supplied ear buds. So that’s a big YEP to your question.

An unbiased user review on purchasing MP3 players?

After reading on the iPod Nano’s 4th gen and as well as Sony’s NWZ-A826B on CNet, I’m still unable to decide of which to buy.

Being a semi-audiophile as well as a budget-conscious consumer just made my mind swirl.

So coming back to my question, which one of the two is worth buying?
And yes, I forgot to mention that the MP3 had to be durable for up to a few year as well. = My bad.

dknol answers:

Hrm, not sure if I can even give you an unbiased review though (I’m a mac user, owner of an ipod Touch, though I Also own a PC at home and a windows based PDA, but I don’t like Sony as a company as I don’t agree with some of their pratices, despite my wife owns a Sony PSP)

However (keeping in mind of my Sony dislike), I don’t feel the sony mp3 player is going to outlive most others based on repair experience with them. BUT a simple mp3 player that’s inexpensive and if you don’t need the video will typically be ‘easier’ in a way than the iPod in some cases. (You must be in britain since the sony model you mentioned is only sold there, least by that model #)

But let’s look at it this way, the NWZ-A826B is a touch screen interface, the 4th gen iPod nano is a completely encased aluminum anodized casing with the glass even curved to the body design. Durability wise the iPod nano clearly wins this aspect.

The sony will play all the same music the iPod will (though the AAC has to be unprotected or it can’t play it, meaning no itunes purchases without decoding), plus WMA, I don’t know too many people who distribute in WMA though.

I also don’t see any source that tells me how the music gets onto the Sony. If it’s like some mp3 players, it would be nice if you can just simply drag and drop your mp3 into the player. (which seems to be the prefered method of people who ‘download’ their music). Where as the nano without some special 3rd party program will only be able to sync with iTunes and managed in that way.

Also the nice thing about the sony is the blue tooth capability, which will work wirelessly with bluetooth headphones if you can afford them.

But if durability is your primary concern, the nano wins on this.

(but far as a touch screen option goes, I still prefer my ipod touch, the nano however I wouldn’t mind investigating alternatives much like you’re doing).

What are the best Mp3 players to buy?

I’m gonna get the Creative Zen 30gig because its easy to use.
anybody used it and recommends it?

I’m wondering how to sort out the tracks
because you just drag and drop them to put them on.I know how to rename tracks but how do I change the album, artist and genre details on a mp3 file?

I’m temped to buy the 80gig ipod
but i’ve never used one before and theres a lot of downloading and converting of tracks involved and it kinda puts me off.(I dont have an i-mac but, I dont need one right? cause all I have to do is download the right sofware.)

Any other players you recommend and why?

Are there any durable, sporty mp3 players with large storage space? because I’ll be using it a lot for training and it’ll get exposed to a lot of movement, rain and might get dropped the odd time.

(I know I’ve asked a few questions so feel free to answer only one or some!)feel free to link me to reviews and sites where I can buy them-I can get the 30gig for 269euro and the 80gig for 400euro.

dknol answers:
