Your Questions About Health And Fitness Articles

Lisa asks…

Optimism and health? Fact or fiction?

Ideas about the associations of personality and health are not new, but have their roots in the bodily humors of ancient Greece.

While the exact mechanism of how personality acts as a risk factor for early death or poorer health is unclear, Maruto says it likely has to do with the fact that pessimists have an increased chance for future problems with their physical health, career achievements, and emotional stress particularly depression.

“Yet another possibility could be more directly biological, like changes in the immune system,” he adds.

Researchers found that pessimists scored below the national average on physical functioning, bodily pain, perception of general health, vitality, mental health, and social functioning.

Besides looking at the world through rosier-colored glasses, living a long and healthy life may also mean paying attention to friends and family.

The question is: Is this true or false?

dknol answers:

I believe that is very true, but also other factors are involved…are we wallowing in guilt or pity..do we grieve over lost loved ones…how about decisions in our life we have made and chose not to make the right choice…we can see the positive or negative in any situation..the secret is learning to let go…the mistakes, the burdens, the regrets..we have to trust that God is in control and He knows which road we should take..Just let go and learn to be happy..no matter the outcome…

Diet and Fitness on Yahoo?

http://ca.lifestyle.yahoo.com/health-fitness/articles/diet/rogers-chatelaine/the-trim-tummy-meal-plan-2009-08-31

So, if I eat these foods and maintain a healthy diet, I can have a flatter stomach?
Thanks for the answers. I’m not fat. Just trying to eat healthier.

dknol answers:

Actually, The information on Health on that article is terrible to be honest.
I’ll paste the first meal and criticize and comment, based on my knowledge.

2 rice cakes< — processed crap with carbs/sugar. Little or no quality fats in it. Humans didn't evolve from processed rice snack cakes.

2 Tbsp almond butter<– almond butter is awesome! Highly recommended.

1 cup orange juice<—- sugar over-kill. Orange juice from the store has little or no nutritional value, as it has been pasteurized and is pure sugar, plain and simple. Besides protein shakes or raw, whole full fat milk, only water should be consumed. Don't drink calories!

1 cup milk or fortified soy milk<— Soy is garbage. It is not a health food. Hell, it isn't even a food. They use hexane (if you don't know what it is, I suggest you look it up..) to extract the soy from the beans..it's terrible for humans and the environment.

1 banana<– bananas are fine after a workout, make sure they are organic.

1 cup yogurt or soy-based yogurt<– *sigh* soy based yogurt is highly processed and again, not a health food. Eat full-fat, raw organic yogurt. It's Pre-biotics will aid with digestive health. Make sure it is sugar free and contains no fruit. If you MUST have it sweet, put some stevia in it.

1 egg-salad pita wrap<– Wraps aren't that healthy. Just eat the eggs by itself, and substitute the wrap bread with a sweet potato.

1 whole wheat pita bread- Bread is highly processed, try sweet potatoes or low-glycemic index products like organic brown rice and flax.

1 cup baby spinach<– spinach rocks! Make sure it is organic. Have some olive oil (cold pressed extra virgin is the only good kind)

1 hardboiled egg, sliced <– eggs are good, make sure they are over easy with runny yolks. Don't worry about the cholesterol in eggs, dietary cholesterol isn't bound to blood cholesterol

½ cup red pepper, sliced<– red peppers are fine, but cruciferous veggies are better (kale, spinach, cauliflower, broccoli)

½ cup mushrooms, sliced <– mushrooms are fine, make sure they are organic.

10 baby carrots<— baby carrots are crap, they are sprayed with orange dye to make they appear fresh.

1 cup milk or soymilk<— again, no soy.Drink milk.Make sure it is pasteurized. And if you're lactose intolerant, drink raw milk. The lactase enzyme in the milk will ensure that the lactose is broken down properly due to the phosphatase calcium absorption in your stomach.

Joseph asks…

Does this change your mind about the health benefits of soya products?

According to this article, North American soya is genetically altered & UNFERMENTED and is REALLY BAD for your health and it’s in almost EVERYTHING.

Unfermented soy products, such as soy milk, tofu, soy burgers, soy nuts, soy formula, soy chips and soy ice cream – contain high levels of phytic acid or phytates which block the absorption of essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, and especially zinc in the intestinal tract. Unfermented soy also contains trypsin inhibitors and hemaglutinin that stunt human growth.

Unfermented soy may be linked to reduced male fertility, increased cancer risk, damaged brain function, developmental abnormalities in infants, and early onset of puberty.

Soya has high amounts of estrogen in it and it’s in BABY FORMULA too.

This article is even more in-depth

Comments?
Oh and it’s also fed to pigs, cows, chickens, etc. and also in your cat and dog food!
Agreed old time re the fermented and why I didn’t mention it is that it’s not really available in North America. It takes months to ferment it and you know darned well they are not going to bother doing that being as no one is even aware of the risks nor takes them seriously.
.

dknol answers:

I knew that that’s why I stayed away from any soy products.
