Your Questions About Bluetooth Technology Uses

Paul asks…
Why Bluetooth technology cannot be used in a wider area? If possible, how?
Why Bluetooth technology is limited to a Personal Area Network?
Why it can’t be used in diversified environment?
dknol answers:
It was designed to be short-range, for many reasons:
1) To avoid having too many networks too close to each other;
2) To limit the amount of power use – more range, more power;
3) There are already many long-range networks

Donna asks…
Which modulation technique is used in Bluetooth technology?
is it frequency modulation?
dknol answers:
Modulation techniques
Bluetooth uses three different kinds of modulation techniques depending on information and bit rate. For the basic rate as well as for the access code and packet header Bluetooth uses Gaussian Frequency Shift Keying, GFSK. For the enhanced data rate different kinds of modulation is used. For a 2 Mbps bit rate Bluetooth uses a ?/4 rotated differential encoded quaternary phase shift keying scheme, abbreviated ?/4-DQPSK. For a 3 Mbps bit rate differential encoded 8-ary phase shift keying is used, abbreviated 8DPSK.

Donald asks…
Can you use a device with bluetooth technology while flying on a airplane?
I want to use a wireless headset while on a airplane, I was wondering if that is allowed…
Since cellphones and other devices are not allowed for use in the airplanes…
dknol answers:
A bluetooth device can be used if and when the bluetooth features are disabled. If the bluetooth feature cannot be disabled, the device must remain off during flight.

Carol asks…
Problem using bluetooth technology on my blackberry curve 8310??
whenever I try to transfer pictures, ringtones or anything else from my laptop or desktop to my blackberry curve 8310 using bluetooth it doesn’t work at all. I always get the message “file type not supported by device”. I try to transfer mp3s but it doesn’t work. when I pair my phone with someone else’s phone I can transfer files to them but my phone does not accept any incoming files (whatever the type) please help, how can I fix this??!!!! Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
dknol answers:
I believe you have to make sure your device is in receive mode. If you are going to be transferring music you will first need to (on your BlackBerry device) go to Media > Music. Press the BlackBerry menu key then select “Receive Using Bluetooth.” Then try to send the file from the other device. The same thing for ringtones and pictures.

John asks…
can anyone explain what bluetooth technology means and how it works. What are the practical uses?
dknol answers:
Bluetooth is an industrial specification for wireless personal area networks (PANs). Bluetooth provides a way to connect and exchange information between devices like personal digital assistants (PDAs), mobile phones, laptops, PCs, printers and digital cameras via a secure, low-cost, globally available short range radio frequency.
Bluetooth is a radio standard primarily designed for low power consumption, with a short range (power class dependent: 10 centimeters, 10 meters, 100 meters) and with a low-cost transceiver microchip in each device.
Bluetooth lets these devices talk to each other when they come in range, even if they are not in the same room, as long as they are within up to 100 meters of each other, dependent on the power class of the product. Products are available in one of three power classes:
Class 1 (100 mW) [still readily available]: It has the longest range at up to 100 meters.
Class 2 (2.5 mW) [most common]: It allows a quoted transmission distance of 10 meters.
Class 3 (1 mW) [rare]: It allows transmission of 10 cm (3.9 in), with a maximum of 1 meter.
