William asks…

what are the obstacles to understand bluetooth technology?

what do most people think about bluetooth? what are the misconceptions and how do you overcome them?

dknol answers:

They thought bluetooth is only for cellphone.
This misconception because they don’t understand the classification of wireless network.

There’s at least two popular wireless network nowadays:
WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network) & WLAN (Wireless LAN). Bluetooth is considered WPAN because of it’s limitation on range (10-100 meter max). Although they use the same frequency (2.4 Ghz), they are using completely different technology. Bluetooth using FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) and recent WLAN using DSSS (Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum) & OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing).

There’s a good things in FHSS used by bluetooth. It’s more interference resistant than DSSS/OFDM. You can use bluetooth BEST for custom application like: In store new promotion, finding the car parking free space, In mall new events, Personal Webserver -> when someone approaching you, your PDA/smartphone broadcasting about you and who you are looking for or what’s your offer to people close to you.

But you can’t depend bluetooth for long-range and high speed/high bandwidth application like internet links or inter-building wireless links for example.

So, after they know the “know-how” and what is the purpose of the technology was first to be designed. They can decided which technology is best for which purpose. Hope this little info help you if you are on developing bluetooth applications. And if the application already finish, spread it to the world via many webhost who host freeware/shareware software, okay?

Paul asks…

I have an essay competition on the topics Nano, Bluetooth technology..which is the most suitable topic?

What is nanotechnology? and Bluetooth technology?

dknol answers:

Nano technology refers to microscopic machines and devices, most of which are still experimental or theoretical at this point. Bluetooth is a technology that is currently in wide usage. It is a method of transmitting data wirelessly over short distances. It’s most common use right now is cell phone headsets, although it can also be used to transfer data between 2 computers within close range of each other.

If you are going to do a paper on either, just know that one on nanotechnology will probably be mostly about what scientists THINK they can do with it, and what their hopes for the future of the technology will be. A paper on Bluetooth would be more about it’s current uses and limitations, and possible future uses.
